04.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “On behalf of the Administration, the State Department regrets the passage today by the House International Relations Committee of Resolution 596 dealing with the tragic events in Turkey in the years 1915 to 1923”, said in Washington Philip T Reeker, deputy spokesman of U.S. Department of State.
“If this resolution is adopted by the full House of Representatives, it will not assist and will likely complicate our efforts to bring peace and stability to the Caucasus and harm our relations with Turkey, our strategic partner in the region.”
The American diplomat also said that U.S. Administration continues to believe that “establishing a productive dialogue on these events ” is the best way to achieve their mutual goals of peace and stability in the region. “Resolutions such as this one, however, hinder rather than encourage that kind of dialogue”, Reeker said. -0-
