ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN: THE RECOGNITION OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IS ONE OF THE PRIORITIES OF OUR FOREIGN POLICY

03.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “If Turkey has problems with the US it should try to solve them with the US and not blame Armenia”, the spokesman for the Armenian foreign ministry, Ara Papian told RFE/RL, commenting on the numerous statements of Turkish top officials that the discussion of the Armenian Resolution in U.S. Congress may have a negative effect on Turkish-American relations.
“We have said many times that the international recognition of the Armenian genocide of 1915 is one of the priorities of our foreign policy. Our president and foreign ministry have called for the recognition not in order to exacerbate relations with Turkey. On the contrary, we believe that problems between the two peoples can be overcome if they jointly find acceptable solutions”, Papian said. -0-
