Azerbaijani POW Roman Guseynov was transferred to “safe third country” through the mediation of United Nations High Commission for Refugees and representatives of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Armenia.
According to Armenian Defense Ministry’s press service, the soldier refused to return to Baku asking for asylum in a “safe third country”.
Junior sergeant Roman Guseynov was taken captive on August 27, 2010. Guseynov served as contract soldier and yielded himself prisoner because of humiliating attitude of his commanders.
