23.08.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The government of Armenia isn’t accumulating new debts today and hopes to pay off all the salary, pension and allowances debts by the end of this year, declared today Armenian Premier Andranik Margarian at the press conference dedicated to 100 days of government activity.
Margarian said that the government has great salary debts to the employees of the budget sphere. At the same time, Margarian said, the government will completely pay off teachers salary debts by September 1st .
The situation with the pension payment is not so comforting, said the premier. In total the government has paid off the pensions for May 2000 in the country, in Yerevan – for July. The total government debt to the pensioners makes up 5 billion drams (1 US dollar is equal to 530 drams). The premier said that the Armenian government has decided not to apply the Russian experience, when the government of RF freezed the payment of old debts for 4 months.
The total debt to the budget sphere employees makes 3.5 billion drams, on family allowances – 4.5 billion drams. The internal debt of the government makes up 25 billion drams, the considerable part of which, according to Andranik Margarian, are the debts, accumulated since 1995.
Armenian premier particularly noted that these results have been achieved exclusively at the expense of internal reserves, as Armenia hasn’t got any credits from international institutions in 2000 yet.-0-
