Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday, November 1, beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at the northwest Russian city’s Petrovsky Stadium to briefly top Group G in the UEFA Champions League with seven points, RIA Novosti reported.
The header that gave Zenit the victory was powered home by Nicolas Lombaerts shortly before the end of the first half.
Cyprus’ APOEL later defeated Portugal’s Porto in Nicosia to move to the top of Group G. APOEL is now leading Group G standings with eight points. It is followed by Zenit (7), Porto (4) and Ukraine’s Shakhtar (2).
