ENOUGH POTENTIAL IN ARMENIA FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTION

There is enough potential in Armenia for holding free and fair election. Head of the PACE electoral observation mission Lord Russell-Johnston told journalists such opinion in Yerevan based on his visit to Armenia. At the same time he called the statement somewhat optimistic, as “not so much time has passed since the presidential election in Armenia.” Nevertheless, in Russell-Johnston’s words, the country authorities assured they would do everything to rule out problems like those at the presidential election at the parliamentary ones. The expert stated the PACE observation mission had arrived to Armenia “not to draw conclusions, but to associate with the authorities and opposition and to clear up which steps are being taken to prevent the shortcomings and omissions available at the past presidential election.” In the mission head’s words, a group of 30 PACE observers will arrive in Armenia on the eve of the parliamentary election.
