THE RELATIVES OF THE VICTIMS OF THE OCTOBER TERRORIST ACT IN THE ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT SPOKE WITH A SHARP STATEMENT

18.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The relatives of the victims of the terrorist act, realized on October 27, 1999 in the National Assembly of Armenia, spoke with a statement, in which they put under doubt the legality of the judgement of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia about terminating the criminal cases regarding the counselor of the president Alexan Harutiunian, deputy director of the National TV Harutiun Harutiunian, journalist Nairi Badalian and deputy Mushegh Movsisian. The statement has been signed by the mother of the late prime minister Vazgen Sarkisian, the widows of the late speaker, two vice-speakers, deputies and ministers, who were killed on October 27, 1999.
It is noted in the statement that instead of working “at the bidding” of the leader of the terrorists Nairi Hunanian, the investigating group had to substantiate by other proofs the statements given by Nairi Hunanian and the other accused and witnesses against Alexan Harutiunian, Harutiun Harutiunian, Nairi Badalian and Mushegh Movsisian.
The authors of the statement think that such proofs could have been gotten in case of carrying out a thorough and detailed investigation by the investigating group.
“We are deeply convinced that in its sense the decision of the Military Prosecutor’s Office about stopping the criminal cases of Alexan Harutiunian, Harutiun Harutiunian, Nairi Badalian and Mushegh Movsisian is a historical document demonstrating how the persons realizing a severest crime are being released by a political order”, is said in the statement.
Moreover, the authors of the statement believe that the wish to accuse solely the executors of the crime of realizing the terrorist act had appeared in the statements of separate statesmen in the days following the terrorist act.
In the statement it is also noted that the criminal cases regarding the above mentioned people were stopped when their participation in the terrorist act of October 27 was already been proved and substantiated by the investigation. “This circumstance is a mockery in the address of justice and has nothing common with the principles of a legal state”, is stressed in the statement.
The authors of the statement turn to the people with an appeal “to rise in the defense of the state power belonging only to them and give a worthy assessment to the people using that power in the interests of their own criminal intrigues”. -0-
