USAID REALIZES AN EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM OF RENDERING AID TO THE PEOPLE DEPRIVED OF DWELLING AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE OF 1988 IN ARMENIA

14.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. In the period of April 28 to July 6, 2000, 177 families were given apartment certificates by the experimental program of the USAID, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the embassy of the USA in Armenia.
10 families have already received new apartments by the certificates.
Within the frameworks of the experimental program, USAID, together with the government of Armenia, issues certificates, by which families chosen by the program can get an apartment with the right for permanent residence in any region of Armenia. The cost of the certificates is based upon the prices of real estate market of Gyumri. These certificates have a predetermined cost and the largeness of the apartment purchased by the family is regulated by them. The certificates are valid for three months.
People wanting to sell their apartment must have another permanent apartment or a house in Armenia. Right after the purchase of a permanent apartment and the completion of the contract the vacant temporal dwellings are liquidated. -0-
