THE INVESTIGATION GROUP FAILED TO PROVE THE PARTICIPATION OF THE ADHERENTS OF THE PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA IN THE REALIZATION OF THE TERRORIST ACT IN THE PARLIAMENT

12.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The completion of the investigation of the case of the fusillade in the parliament of Armenia on October 27, 1999, declared by the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia, indicates that the investigation group failed to prove the participation of the closest adherents of the president of Armenia in the realization of the terrorist act.
On July 7 in the interview to the “Hayastani Hanrapetutiun” newspaper the military prosecutor of Armenia, Gagik Jhangirian actually confessed that the leader of the group Nairi Hunanian led the investigation group to confusion with his statements. According to Jhangirian, in his statements Nairi Hunanian so skillfully used the facts of the past connections, contacts and meetings with those persons, that “neither the investigating group nor the court doubted in their objectiveness and sincerity”.
“The investigation group had a clear scenario – accuse the president of Armenia of organizing the murders of the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament”, declared on June 23 to “Ar” TV-company the vice director of the National Television of Armenia Harutyun Harutyunian, from whom the accusation of supporting the realization of the terrorist act of October 27, 1999 was removed.
Harutyunian stated that the investigation tried to achieve its aim with all the means. In particular, Harutyunian stated that during his imprisonment in the isolator ward he was being tortured and beaten.
Harutyun Harutyunian was set free on June 5. The ex-head of the staff of Robert Kocharian, the ex-secretary of the Security Council of the country, the counselor of the president of Armenia Alexan Harutyunian, accused of instigation to the realiztion of the terrorist act, was released from under custody on April 15, 2000. The deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia Mushegh Movsisian, who was accused of being involved in the realization of the terrorist act on October 27 1999, was also set free in June. -0-
