TODAY THE SESSION OF THE CO-CHAIRMEN OF THE OSCE MINSK GROUP ON KARABAKH SETTLEMENT STARTS IN VIENNA

12.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Today the session of the co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk group on Karabakh issue settlement starts in Vienna.
It is expected that the co-chairmen – Nikolai Gribkov (Russia), Carey Cavanaugh (USA) and Jean-Jacques Gaillard (France) will discuss the results of their recent visit to the region at the beginning of July. According to the US co-chairman Carey Cavanaugh, the questions of preparation for the upcoming visit of the OSCE Chairperson-In-Office, the Austrian foreign minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner to the region, planned on July 17-18, will also be considered at the Vienna meeting.
The foreign minister of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh Naira Melkumian will participate in the OSCE Minsk group session. About this declared the foreign minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian at the press conference in Yerevan on July 11. He noted that he considers this initiative of the mediators very useful, as it will let the co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk group get acquainted with RNK’s position “at first hand”.
The Armenian minister also declared that in the course of the recent visit to the region the co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk group didn’t submit any new suggestions or ideas on Karabakh issue settlement. Oskanian said that the mediators are not going to make any new proposals in the near future. “They hope that during the direct meetings of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan some new ideas will be brought out, upon which the work of the mediators will be based “. –0–
