Holy Echmiadzin considers inadmissible the attempts to bring to naught the efforts of religious leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan aimed at the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and restoration of natural relations between the two countries. Holy Echmiadzin press service head Vahram Milikian told “Arminfo” agency when commenting on a statement by the religious leader of Azerbaijan at a recent meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I that the Armenian Gregorian Church had played a significant role in “unleashing” the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and was not giving up the stand at present either. In the opinion of the head of the Holy Echmiadzin press service, the credibility of such a statement arouses certain doubts, as Catholicos of all Armenians and the Sheik of Azerbaijan have emphasized at their meetings that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict did not have a religious underlying reason.
