LITHUANIAN DEFENSE MINISTER ARRIVED IN YEREVAN ON OFFICIAL CALL

There are no too ambitious goals in the Armenian-Lithuanian cooperation. Lithuanian defense minister Linas Linkevichus told journalist upon arriving in Yerevan. “The situation in the South Caucasus differs from that in the Baltic region, but the path we have followed in cooperation with the NATO and the European Union can be useful to Armenia,” – he said. The minister pointed out that “the dialogue between the two countries situated far from each other can seem strange to many people, but there is nothing strange in the urge to get closer to authoritative international organizations.” Moreover, in his words, in the course of the visit the issue of Armenian military education in Lithuania will be discussed. Speaking of the signing of a Program on Bilateral Military Cooperation for 2003, planned in the course of the visit, the minister noted, “the fact of planning certain measures evidences that the bilateral relations are of systematic nature.” Within the framework of the visit to last till April 23, as reported by “Arka” agency, the Lithuanian defense minister will meet with Armenian leadership, as well as will lay a wreath to the Memorial of the Armenian Genocide Victims and will visit Military Institute after V. Sargsian.
