DIPLOMAT EXPERIENCED IN CONFLICT SETTLEMENT APPOINTED US AMBASSADOR TO AZERBAIJAN

The US president has approved Reno Harnish as the new US ambassador to Azerbaijan. According to a release of the White House press service, up to now he has headed the US diplomatic mission in Kosovo. He was deputy head of the US diplomatic mission in Cairo in 1999-2002 and “actively worked for the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict” together with the Egyptian government. The diplomat has also engaged in working out political and economic reforms in the Central Asian countries. According to statements made by him earlier, the ambassador’s diplomatic mission in Baku will aim at activation of Azerbaijan’s participation in the antiterrorist coalition and the US contribution to the East-West energy corridor.
