Rafal Kapler, the head of a Polish sports centre responsible for building a Warsaw stadium for Euro 2012, resigned Monday, February 13 after numerous construction delays at the venue.
The resignation comes after a Saturday Polish Super Cup match was cancelled at the National Stadium amid safety concerns.
The stadium, which had its opening ceremony last month, is a key venue in this summer's Euro 2012 football championships and set to host the opening game between Poland and Greece on June 8.
Kapler thanked his colleagues at the National Sports Centre, and said 'business and a rational approach' had won over 'emotions and political conflicts' during the stadium's construction.
The centre formed in 2006 to supervise the National Stadium's construction.
Poland and co-hosts Ukraine have both experienced delays in building roads, stadiums and other infrastructure needed for the prestigious tournament, M&C reported quoting DPA.
