A number of non-governmental organizations and media of Turkey have supported Akos Armenian newspaper being issued in Istanbul, which is threatened by extremist circles due to publishing a material on Armenian descent of Sabiha Gokcen – a national heroine of Turkey. Specifically, extremists threatened to make short work of newspaper editor Hrant Dink. Representatives of the Human Rights Organization, Mesopotamia Public Union, other human rights organizations and the media the other day visited Akos editor’s office to support the editorials and express their indignation over the occurrence. “Hrant Dink does not aim at creating hostility between Armenians and Turks, to the contrary, he calls them to friendship,” the statement spread by them says. It should be reminded that according to a version, lately published in European media and Akos, the father of first female combat pilot of Turkey Sabiha Gokcen, who was adopted by the founder of the Turkish state Kemal Ataturk, was an Armenian, killed during the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
