Armenia, France boost anti-monopoly cooperation

Chairman of Armenia’s State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) Artak Shaboyan and president of the French Competition Authority Bruno Lasserre signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Yerevan on March 19.

Ambassador of France to Armenia also attended the meeting.

As Shaboyan said in his welcoming speech, France is the world’s second largest and Europe’s largest investor in Armenia. There are 155 joint Armenian-French companies operating in Armenia now. “This agreement will improve the competitive field, create favorable investment climate in Armenia and promote foreign investments flow into our country,” he said.

Shaboyan also informed that the framework of the signed document provides for cooperation aimed at boosting the SCPEC’s institutional capacities, exchange of experience and training through mutual visits of representatives and experts of the anti-monopoly authorities of Armenia and France. Besides, operation of joint Armenian-French companies and relevant assistance will also appear in the focus.

For his part, Lasserre emphasized that the large number of Armenian-French companies demonstrates that the two countries have very strong ties. “The Memorandum will further consolidate our relations and enable us to combat violations in competitive sphere more efficiently,” he added.
