Is GUAM going to collapse?

GUAM, which brings together Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, will become a useless structure if it doesn’t revive as an economic union, according to an Ukrainian expert.

“GUAM was formed as a perspective economic organization. However, an attempt to militarize the bloc has irritated the West and Russia,” Andrey Yermolayev said.

As to ties with NATO, he believes that partner relations will be maintained. Ukraine will have nonaligned status. At that, partnership with the CSTO is not ruled out,” Analitika.at.ua reported.

For his part, Georgian expert Soso Tsintsadze thinks that Georgia should nor eye Ukraine as a strategic partner any longer. “Ukraine will be just a partner. Economic relations will be preserved but military cooperation and armament delivery will be suspended. Ukraine can secede from GUAM, followed by Moldova,” he said.
