Election of new head of PACE subcommittee on Karabakh impossible at present

Election of a new chairman of the subcommittee on Karabakh is on the agenda of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), yet the issue has always been postponed for different reasons, the head of the Armenian delegation to PACE said.

“The newly-elected chairman has to be an influential and trustworthy political figure. Further activities of the subcommittee depend on his credibility. He can’t be elected without prior consultations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Yet, no discussions have been initiated so far,” Davit Harutyunyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

Mr. Harutyunyan has doubts that the new chairman will be elected during March 17 discussion of PACE subcommittee on Karabakh, as there are no suitable candidates for the position.
