Uruguayan President Jorge Batlle has signed the law passed by the Parliament, in compliance with which the country will officially mark April 24 as Commemoration Day of Armenians Tormented in 1915. According to the law, on that day the state media should cover the events taken place in Ottoman Turkey in early last century, the Montevideo office of Hnchakian Armenian party reported. It should be reminded that the Uruguayan Parliament passed the law March 10 this year. As thereupon reported by Armenia Uruguayan radio company, in spite the draft of the law does not mention the term “genocide,” all those addressing the Parliament unanimously qualified the events as genocide.
