President George Bush again refrained from using the term “genocide” in his annual report to the American Armenians in the view of the 89-th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey. Delivering a speech on April 24 George Bush said in part: ” Today we recall one of the outrageous crimes of the 20-th century, when 1,5 million of Armenians were deported and killed. This awful reality still causes chronic pain as in Armenia as in Turkey for those, who believe in the inestimable value of freedom and sanctity of human life. I and all the US people share the pain of the Armenians of America and of the whole world”. At the same time Bush called Armenia and Turkey to understanding and expressed support to people, who strive for normalizing economic, political and cultural relations between Turkey and Armenia. Bush mentioned that he is proud of strong ties available between the US and Armenia and highlighted the latter’s participation in the struggle against terrorism. “Our government contributes to establishment of strategic relationship between Armenia, the US and our European allies”, he said. The President also reminded of the necessity of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
