Turkey was under intense pressure of Paris and Berlin in passing a decision on supporting the anti-Iraqi coalition, Daily Telegraph writes. The article alludes to reports that France and Germany threatened Turkey with closing the door to the European Union, if Ankara takes the US side. Meanwhile, France and Germany, in the edition opinion, are more interested in spreading their dominance than strengthening the European unity. The cooperation of the two countries hinting at formation of a Franco-German federal union is called to weaken the influence of smaller European states. The newspaper concludes it would be better for Turkey to renounce the intention to join the EU, which is becoming nothing else but a French empire.
