The US House of Representatives on July 15 adopted Congressman Adam Schiff’s amendment, prohibiting the Turkish government from using U.S. foreign assistance for defeating legislation recognizing the Armenian Genocide. According to a report of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), the resolution on Genocide reaffirms US support for the Genocide Convention adopted in 1989 and cites the importance of remembering pastcrimes against humanity, including the Armenian Genocide, Holocaust, Cambodian and Rwandan genocides, in an effort to stop future atrocities. It should be noted that the Turkish government spends millions of dollars to prevent the adoption of the resolution by the Congress.
