NATO EUROPEAN SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER NULLIFIED EXERCISES IN AZERBAIJAN

Due to not allowing Armenian officers’ entry to Baku NATO European Supreme Allied Commander James L. Jones made a decision to declare void the Cooperative Best Effort -2004 exercises, which were to begin within NATO Partnership for Pace Program in Azerbaijan today. In an exclusive interview with Mediamax news agency a representative of the NATO Headquarters emphasized that when making the decision general Jones based himself on the circumstance that “having refused to allow entry of Armenian officers, Azerbaijan broke the main principle within Partnership for Peace exercises, according to which they should be open to all partner states.” “The NATO has regretted on the principle being broken in the course of organization of the maneuvers in Azerbaijan,” the Alliance representative stated. It should be reminded that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tbilisi refused to provide entry visas to 5 Armenian officers, who were to participate in Cooperative Best Effort – 2004 exercises.”
