Yesterday the PACE Committee for Migration, Refugees and Population viewed possible candidatures for the post of rapporteur on refugees in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. Acting rapporteur Vermont Mangold from Switzerland and Boris Tsilevitch from Latvia were nominated to the post. As Turan Baku news agency came to know from a source in the CE, Armenia’s representative, vice-speaker of the parliament Tigran Torosian offered to postpone the consideration of the issue till the next sitting. However, Azerbaijan’s representative Naira Shakhtakhtinskaya spoke for immediate decision saying the problem of refugees is urgent for the region. With 16 votes “for” and 4 “against” the Latvian parliamentarian was elected the new rapporteur on refugees in the South Caucasian states.
