The sixth sitting of the Armenia-EU Cooperation Council was held in Brussels yesterday. As reported by the Press Service of the Armenian foreign department, from the Armenian side the sitting was chaired by Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian, while his Dutch counterpart Bernard Bot presided from the European side. The meeting agenda included questions of prospects of European neighborhood policy, political and economic reforms and cooperation, problems of energy and other fields. In the course of the sitting the parties pointed out the need of establishment of stability and lasting peace in the South Caucasus and normalization of the relations between neighbors, emphasizing the importance of inclusion of Turkey in a positive dialogue. They also welcomed the resumption of direct contacts between the Armenian and Azeri Presidents within the context of the Karabakh settlement. It should be reminded that the agreement on partnership and cooperation between Armenia and the EU is in effect since July 1, 1999.
