During the talks between Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and US Deputy State Secretary Steven Pfeiffer September 21 questions of American military presence in Azerbaijan were discussed. Referring to reliable sources, Azeri independent military expert Uzeir Jafarov stated it in an interview with Echo Baku newspaper. It should be noted that, as reported by Arminfo news agency referring to Associated Press, Bush administration senior representatives already negotiate forming a range of mobile groups of US army in different countries of the world, specifically in Azerbaijan. According to the source, “throughout the world American troops launch their network of small front lines, which is called to help in struggle against terrorism in hot spots in Middle East and Africa.” It should be noted that in spite of the abundant flow of information on the matter, official Baku has not made any statements on placing American bases in the country yet.
