ARMENIANS OF GEORGIA WILL BE DEPRIVED OF EDUCATION IN MOTHER TONGUE

The national minorities of Georgia are concerned over the item of the bill on general education, in compliance to which Georgian will be the main instruction language at all schools (in Abkhazia – also the Abkhazian), A-Info news agency reported. As a result Armenians, Russians, Azerbaijanis, residing in Georgia will soon be deprived of the opportunity to study at schools in their mother tongue. The only consolation for them may become the item of the draft, in compliance to which if the instruction language at a school is not a student’s mother tongue, the Council of Trustees can introduce the mother tongue of the pupil into the curriculum in case respective financial means are available.
