RUSSIAN MFA: CONSIDERATION OF KARABAKH PROBLEM BY UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY CANNOT CONTRIBUTE TO ITS SETTLEMENT

The initiative to consider the Nagorno Karabakh problem at the UN General Assembly cannot beneficially influence the negotiation process, RIA Novosti came to know from the department of information and press of the Russian Foreign Ministry in view of the proposal on inclusion of the item on “seized territories of Azerbaijan” in the agenda of the UN General Assembly session. “Russia like other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs abstained in the vote. We think that the initiative on a parallel with the OSCE consideration of the issue during the UN GA session can hardly exert beneficial influence on the negotiation process”, the source reported. As the department officials stated, the results of the vote testify that most of the members of the world community adhere to analogous position. Moscow considers that the format of the OSCE Minsk Group allows resolving of any problems referring to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and securing progress in peace achievement. The RF Foreign Ministry underscored that the recent meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents mapped out the prospects for the resuming of the negotiations for finding a mutually admissible solution.
