CONFIDENCE BUILDING MEETING BETWEEN KARABAKH AND AZERI REPRESENTATIVES HELD IN PYATIGORSK

“Confidence Building between the Azeri and Karabakh Societies” project is being realized by the Nagorno karabakh Helsinki Initiative – 92 committee together with the Gandzha Office of the Helsinki Civil Assembly since May 2004. As reported by Demo Karabakh newspaper, Representatives of the Karabakh and Azeri parties met in Pyatigorsk within the project framework. As stated by the Committee coordinator Karen Ohajanian on the occasion of the choice of the venue, in Pyatigorsk Armenians and Azeris, who found themselves there there as a result of the Karabakh conflict, peacefully co-exist and prosper throughout the conflict period. It should be noted that the meeting aimed at facilitating the communication of the Azeri-Karabakh delegation with representatives of their national communities and at acquainting the delegates with the positive experience of their cooperation. In K. Ohajanyan’s opinion, the Pyatigorsk meeting was the first event of the format, at which the parties managed to avoid bitter debates and proved quite benevolent towards each other.
