IRANIAN GAS TRANSIT VIA ARMENIA TO EUROPE POSSIBLE

“Some sources report that Tbilisi is holding informal negotiations with Tehran and Yerevan on import of the Iranian gas”, Gazetasng writes. The matter concerns the possibility of transit of the Iranian gas via Armenia in view of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline construction. “According to the data provided by some Turkish energy companies, Iran will not restrict itself to delivering gas to Armenia only. In future the transit via Armenia and Georgia to Russia, western regions of the CIS as well as Eastern and Western Europe is also possible. “Guided by political reasons, i.e. wishing to weaken energy dependence on Russia, Georgia shows interest in the import of the Iranian gas”. According to Gazetasng.ru, Armenia and Georgia’s average annual returns from the transit of the Iranian gas can make $80-100 million.
