Turkey should recognize the Armenian Genocide, French President Jacques Chirac considers. When replying to the journalist’s question “genocide or tragedy?” Chirac stated: “genocide”. In France the fact of the genocide was recognized by the majority of parliament. Though the genocide recognition does not appear as a condition for Turkey’s entry to the EU, in the President’s opinion, Turkey should once again study out her past to meet the criteria of the European society, otherwise France will “block the EU membership talks”, Jacques Chirac summed up.
