ARMENIAN NA SECRETLY VOTES ON SENDING OF ARMENIAN CONTINGENT TO IRAQ

“The Armenian parliament of this convocation has never been attended by such a number of deputies”, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Artur Baghdasarian says. The deputies representing Justice opposition bloc, who have been boycotting the NA since the very first day, are deliberating on their participation in the voting on the sending of Armenian medical officers, drivers and combat engineers to Iraq. Today the oppositionists have already taken part in the discussion of the voting process. Secretary of Justice faction Viktor Dallakian proposed to hold an open vote with transmitting it on the Public Television. However the majority of the deputies supported the idea of closed vote on the issue. Yesterday the permanent parliamentary commission for foreign affairs headed by Armen Rustamian approved the proposal of the RA Defense Minister to send the Armenian military contingent to Iraq. The piquancy of the situation is that Armen Rustamian represents ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the supreme body of which decided to vote against the government’s proposal despite the party serves on the ruling coalition. The decision is conditioned by the fact that Dashnaktsutyun has links with the Armenian communities of the Near East, who are categorically against the sending of Armenian servicemen to Iraq. The anxiety is caused by the fact that the Armenians living in Arabian states are fearing of possible attacks of the Islamic radicals
