“Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not a precondition for normalization of the relations between Armenia and Turkey, as the issue has a wider moral aspect,” Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian stated in an interview with Zaman Turkish newspaper. “We expect the issues of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey and the lifting of the blockade of the border with Armenia to be included in the agenda of the talks between Turkey and the EU. However, as of the question of the opening of the border, we cannot wait for another 10-15 years until Turkey becomes an EU member,” V. Oskanian stated.
