February 1 the Sudanese parliament unanimously approved the treaty between the central Sudanese government and representatives of the rebels struggling for independence of the southern regions of the country populated by Christian minority. Thus 20-year war between the Islamic north and southern Christian regions indirectly supported by the US came to an end. The agreement provides for the adoption of provisional constitution and conduction a referendum on independence in the southern regions of the country in 5 years. The Armenian Foreign Ministry welcomes the treaty based on mutual principle of national self-determination.
