Ramil Safarov’s moderate remorse of his deed is nothing but a defense tactics, Armenian Defense Ministry representative at the Budapest trial Hayk Demoyan stated in the course of an on-line interview organized by Open Armenia Forum. In his words, by that the lawyers are trying to mitigate the punishment. According to the investigation data, 15 hacks were delivered to the already breathless body of Gurgen Margarian. The Azeri party has submitted to the court a list of allegedly killed and missing relatives of Safarov. Among them there was no one with surname Safarov. After the list was read at the court, judge Andrash Vaskuti asked not to present materials not linked with the case to the court. As of the refusal of the defense to recognize the conclusions of Hungarian experts on the mental health of Safarov, if it is the case the defense find itself like between two fires. According to the expert conclusion, at the moment of committing the crime Safarov was absolutely compos mentis and mentally healthy. When announcing the expert conclusion it was also said that Safarov is a capricious person, who easily falls under someone’s influence. He is suggestible and what is most important – his IQ is lower that that of a secondary school graduate (is spite he has graduated from several military institutions in Azerbaijan and Turkey). Thus, on one hand refusing from the expertise data, the defense makes every effort to present Safarov as a person, who has experienced shock and is under the influence of what he saw in his childhood. Experts noted that to commit such a crime no emotional experience of childhood could have serious impact. On the other hand, as Hungarian experts have justly pointed out, it is clear that being an officer Safarov has passed medical examination in his fatherland many times. Such a move predisposed Hungarian experts against the defense. They pointed to their 30-year experience with indignation and stated that even if the Pope himself was present at the test, he would not have a chance to influence the outcome. “One has to agree that if after the first test, which was held 4 days after the murder, experts decided Safarov was compos mentis, they can hardly give a different conclusion now and recognize Safarov irresponsible. Thus the retest, on which the defense has insisted, will not introduce anything new into the trial,” Hayk Demoyan said.
