The Azeri Government has paid US Congressman Dan Burton for his anti-Armenian statements, Armenian Embassy in USA representative told RFE/RL. It should be reminded that representing State Indiana at the Congress, member of the International Relations Committee Dan Burton has called the Congress to recognize the so-called “Khajaly genocide.” In the Congressman’s opinion, “by recognizing the Khajaly genocide the US Congress will melt the years-long ice silence of the international community towards the issue in question.” In the words of the representative of the Armenian Embassy in USA, Burton’s statement is due to two years ago the Azeri Government hired the lobby organization of former Turkish-minded Congressman Livingston for lobbying interests of Azerbaijan in the US Congress. The Armenian diplomatic mission representative in US reminded about the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues composed of 140 members, “who defend the interests of Armenians not for money, but due to actually being friends of Armenia.” Dan Burton is known for a long time as one of the most Turkish-minded members of the US Congress. “He has made many statements denying the Armenian Genocide and is a person far from the historical reality. The statement made by him cannot be compared with the Armenian Caucus activities,” the Embassy representative stated.
