There is a big difference between the Iraqi and Nagorno Karabakh problems and any comparison is not relevant here. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, US deputy assistant secretary of state on European and Eurasian affairs Elizabeth Jones said when answering an Azeri media question during Baku-Washington TV bridge. In her words, after Saddam Hussein’s invasion into Kuwait the international community arrived at an opinion that the aggression should not repeat again and that the working out, production and storage of mass extermination weapons was not admissible. This was one of the conditions laid by the UN Security Council. Everyone expected Saddam Hussein to submit, which did not happen though. This is completely different from what happens in the South Caucasus, the deputy assistant state secretary emphasized. In her opinion, use of arms to settle the Nagorno Karabakh problem would be an awful decision, with which no one would agree. The US does not believe in such an outcome and thus demonstrates interests towards energy projects in the region and makes efforts within the OSCE Minsk group to promote peaceful solution of the problem. The US is trying to find a regional solution to the Nagorno Karabakh problem, Jones stated.
