Former EU rapporteur on Turkey, member of the European Parliament Alan Lamacer has come against accepting “non-European” countries in the EU. In his words, as reported by “Arminfo” agency, Turkey is not Europe in territorial respect, except for perhaps Istanbul. Nomination of Turkey as a candidate for EU member at the Helsinki summit was a historical mistake, the EU representative considers. “If we accept Turkey in the EU, what prevents us from including Azerbaijan, Armenia or Israel?” – said Alan Lamacer addressing the Institute of Political Science of Strasbourg University.
