The Collective Security Treaty Organization is completing the elaboration of draft documents on peacekeeping activities, however it is premature to speak of redistribution of authority in the sphere of peacekeeping activities between the CSTO and CIS, the press service of the CSTO Secretariat reported according to Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov. “First the CSTO peacekeeping potential is still being formed, second, it can’t be excessive and third, the CIS has accumulated rather considerable experience and it would be senseless to abandon it”, he said. When commenting on the CIS peacekeeping activities he reminded about the operations in the area of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and in Tajikistan. Attempts have been made also for settling the Karabakh and Pridnestrovian conflicts.
