On April 17, 2013, in the Glendale Central Library Auditorium five contemporary artists, Charlie Khachadourian, Ara Oshagan, Samvel Saghatelian, Vachag Tersarkissian and Harry Vorperian will talk about their unique artistic experiences in Shushi.
The presentation is in both English and Armenian languages.
Shushi Art Project is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to present extraordinary artistic events that celebrate diversity, promote discourse and foster change. The first project Land and Technology, was an international festival of contemporary art that was held in Shushi, Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. The project goal was to raise awareness about social issues, and to break down barriers to cross-cultural understanding and global dialogue. This unique project brought together twenty artists with diverse backgrounds from the U.S., Europe, Armenia and Artsakh. Shushi Art Project’s next major event will take place in 2014 which is still in its planning stages.
Harry Vorperian is the founder of the Shushi Art Project. He is well known painter and graphic designer. He was the owner and the manager of Holly Street Art Gallery in Old Town Pasadena. He has taught art at Chamlian Elementary School students and enthusiasts alike. Harry’s last solo exhibition “The I,” was held in November 2010 at the AT1 Gallery in Atwater Village. Until recently Vorperian was the general manager of Horizon Armenian Television. Today, he is completing “Land & Technology” art project’s catalog, preparing for his next art exhibition, and working as a freelance designer.
