Rasul Guliyev Intends to Inform EP on Situation in Azerbaijan

Head of the oppositionist Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, Parliament ex-Speaker Rasul Guliyev has returned to London from Simferopol. Guliyev was to hold meetings with leaders of parliamentary factions of the Verkhovna Rada, however he left Ukraine without explanations. His representatives explained his urgent leaving, saying «on the eve of the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan Guliyev intends to return to Baku, but not from Kiev.» Guliyev, searched for by law-enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan on indictment of large misappropriations, was taken into custody in Simferopol airport October 17. Thursday Simferopol court released Guliyev. The judge considered Azerbaijan request to detain ex-Speaker was conditioned by political motives. Yesterday Azeri law-enforcement bodies reported Guliyev’s participation in organizing seizure of power in the country by force. According to some data, Guliyev intends to address the European MPs and inform them about the situation in Azerbaijan. He reported at a briefing in Simferopol that he realizes he might be arrested in Baku, however is resolute to return.
