Estonian FM: Turkey Should Acknowledge Armenian Genocide

Estonian FM Urmas Paet considers Turkey should recognize the Armenian Genocide. In an interview with the Postimis newspaper he said, «Each country should speak of history as frankly as possible. This refers both to Estonia and Turkey.» He expressed confidence that Turkey will be able to become part of the EU. In Urmas Paet’s opinion, apprehensions over Turkey’s accession to the EU are exaggerated. «When Eastern Europe joined the EU some people forecasted that Eastern Europe would be deserted, as everyone will move to Western Europe. Similar erroneous forecasts are made regarding Turkey at present,» the Estonian FM said, reported RFE/RL.
