Russian MP Does Not See Obstacles for Signing Agreement on Dual Citizenship with Armenia

Deputy of Russian State Duma, Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Ties with Compatriots Rifat Shaykhutdinov assured in a conversation with Armenian journalists that it is hard to imagine relations better than those between Russia and Armenia. The friendly relations, in his words, keep strengthening. Answering a question on the possibility of signing an Armenian-Russian agreement on dual citizenship, he stated he did not see any problem hampering it. «I proposed automatically issuing citizenship to former USSR citizens, however not everyone in the Duma agrees with it. As of Armenia, I do not see any obstacles in the matter. The question would have been solved in 1999, if there were no changes in Armenia and at ours,» Rifat Shaykhutdinov stated. In his opinion the Duma should discuss the matter and the Parliament naturally has its own opinion and it does not take into good faith the contradicting opinions in some Government circles.
