November 25 NKR FM Arman Melikyan met with a delegation led by special representative of the Belgian Kingdom in the OSCE, Senator Pierre Chevalier at the NKR Permanent Representation in Armenia. P. Chevalier remarked that the opportunities to solve the Karabakh issue shortly had become considerable. He asked about the NKR position over prospects of settlement of the conflict, expectations from the OSCE in that respect.
The NKR FM briefed the guest on the conflict history, causes and consequences of the war, the position of the NKR authorities. A. Melikyan underscored the importance of the issue of ethnic cleansing organized by Azeri authorities against 500 thousand Armenians, who became refugees resulting from the war. Refugees have a right of selection of a residence area on the territory of the former Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic, the NKR FM remarked. He emphasized that the NKR authorities are ready to protect their rights, secure their existence and create preconditions for their development. The need to establish direct relations between European structures and the NKR was emphasized during the conversation. Within that context the Karabakh party suggested expanding the mandate of EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie, making it comprise Nagorno Karabakh as well, reported IA Regnum.
