The famous Turkish academic Taner Akcam’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide spells a certain progress in the issue, while also questioning Ankara’s policy, Director General of the European Center of Geopolitical Analysis said.
As Mateusz Piskorski told PanARMENIAN.Net, “the academic’s recognition may lead to serious debates among Turkey’s intellectual elite; however, it’s hard to say whether those debates will affect Ankara’s political agenda.”
“Turkey has two options – to either continue the Genocide denial, thus perpetuating the neo-Osmanism policy or follow the road of reconciliation, like Germany did after 1945. The history shows that the second option does not necessarily spell lesser role in the international arena,” the expert said.
“However, the utopic doctrine and dependence on Baku continue to play an important role in Ankara’s policy,” the expert concluded.
