Turkish authorities “denounced” the Lithuanian Parliament passing a resolution acknowledging the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire early past century. The statement notes that “the resolution was introduced to the Lithuanian Parliament as a fact already taken place and without discussion and presence of the majority of MPs was approved at a parliamentary session.” “We denounce that Resolution, which does not have any historical or legal grounds,” the Turkish MFA statement says. It underscores that the events in early 20th century, “which caused sufferings of both Turks and Armenians, should not be distorted due to biased political initiatives and cannot be qualified as genocide.” The statement also says that “the Resolution will not promote Turkish-Lithuanian relations and normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations.” It should be reminded that December 15 the Lithuanian Parliament passed a Resolution censuring the Armenian Genocide and urged Turkey to recognize that crime against humanity.
