Mamedov: Talks on Karabakh Issue Tensed

The talks over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement are held in a tensed atmosphere, head of the foreign relations department of the Azerbaijani presidential administration Novruz Mamedov stated. In his words, the ongoing negotiation process within the OSCE Minsk Group is a positive phenomenon. “Despite the existence of new positive elements, there is no consent on plenty of issues, that is why the Presidents should meet to exchange views. The OSCE Minsk Group is now engaged in the organization of the meeting,” he said adding that the place and date have not been fixed yet.

When commenting on the statement by MG Russian Co-Chair Yuri Merzlyakov about the preparation of a document on the main principles of the Karabakh conflict settlement Mamedov said the mediator probably furnished the information on his own initiative. “I cannot say how much this information corresponds to reality. Some issues remain as statements only,” he noted, Trend news agency reported.
