Congressman Pitts Joins US Congress Armenian Caucus

The Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues now boasts 152 Members with the addition of Congressman Joseph Pitts (R-PA), who officially joined the Caucus on January 10, reported the Armenian Assembly of America. Pitts, who is currently serving his fifth term, is the ninth Representative to join from the state of Pennsylvania. Last summer, Pitts told Congress that U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Evans deserves the American Foreign Service Association’s Herter Award for properly characterizing the Armenian Genocide. The AFSA unexpectedly rescinded the award days before Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Washington for a meeting with President Bush. Additionally, Pitts has demonstrated support for Armenian issues by voting in favor of the amendment that retained Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act in 1998. Pitts is also a member of the Turkish Caucus.
