The British Foreign Ministry is aware of Azerbaijan’s position over Armenian monuments being destroyed in Nakhichevan, reported Tahir Taghizadeh, head of Press and Information Policy Office of the Azeri Foreign Ministry. In his words, the Foreign Ministry keeps in touch with British Embassy in Baku. It should be reminded that member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, Baroness Caroline Cox had send a written request to the House of Lords asking to express its attitude to towards the destruction of Armenian historical monuments in Nakhichevan. Meanwhile, as reported by APA Azeri agency referring to British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Laurie Bristow, the issue raised by Cox will not be subject for debate or discussion in the House of Lords. A British Foreign Ministry officer is expected to answer the Baroness. Laurie Bristow also stated that though Baroness Cox is also member of the House of Lords, she does not represent the Government, «Thoughts expressed by her are of personal nature.» It should also be reminded that Baroness Cox specifically urged the British Government to consider the opportunity to express concern over destruction of ancient Armenian churches and other artifacts in Azerbaijan via its UNESCO representative.
