Armenian and Georgian FMs Discussed Wide Range of Regional Issues

Today Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian met with his Georgian counterpart Gela Bezhuashvili, who arrived in Yerevan on a two-day working visit, reported the Armenian MFA Press Service. Oskanian said he was sure that Armenian-Georgian relations based on historical friendship will further keep developing in the spirit of friendship and mutually favorable cooperation. The parties discussed a number of international and regional issues, as well s matters of mutual interest. The interlocutors considered the agenda of the Armenian-Georgian relations as extensive. Within the framework of prospects of regional development Oskanian and Bezhuashvili discussed conflict settlement. The interlocutors exchanged information on the talks, as well as prospects of conflict settlement in Nagorno Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as peculiarities of discussion of the conflicts in question in international organizations.

Besides, the Ministers discussed developments in the European direction, specifically the ENP Action Plan and intensification of the relations with the NATO. Within that context the importance of joint efforts was emphasized. It was noted that consultations between two MFAs will promote it. The interlocutors specially underscored the joint efforts in economy and business. The Ministers noted that economically efficient ties can promote development of bilateral economic relations. Thereupon opportunities to fully use regional transport communications, specifically restore the railways that do not operate at present, were discussed.

In his turn Gela Bezhuashvili remarked that as a transit country Georgia is interested in diversification of transport communications, which will in the long prospect promote development of all countries of the region. Speaking of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Georgian state border, the parties said they were sure the process will as soon as possible have a result acceptable to both parties.
